Kitchen safety

Cooking together should be fun. Here's the short version of what we ask grown-ups to handle, and what kids can confidently own.

Grown-ups handle

  • • Anything hot — hobs, ovens, kettles, microwaves.
  • • Sharp knives and graters for younger cooks.
  • • Allergy checks on every label.
  • • Electrical appliances.

Kids can own

  • • Measuring, weighing and pouring.
  • • Stirring, mixing and decorating.
  • • Cracking eggs and tearing herbs.
  • • Setting the table — and the timer.

Before you start

  • • Wash hands, tie hair back, roll up sleeves.
  • • Read the recipe together first.
  • • Get all ingredients out on the counter.
  • • Have a damp cloth ready for spills.

Allergens

We flag common allergens on every recipe. Always check ingredient labels — recipes and brand formulations can change.
